A Greystones Musical Institution

Originally an internet coffee house more than a decade ago, The Hot Spot Music Club venue has since established itself as an integral part of the vibrancy and nightlife of Greystones, Co Wicklow; in fact it has long been considered the ‘unofficial arts centre of the town’, offering an eclectic live entertainments programme, as well as providing a private space for community events, life celebrations and business activities.

The Bastard Sons of Sun

Officially established as an Internet Coffee House in 2010, a chance meeting with a performance poet led to the café’s first cabaret show in 2011. The first live band performance took place shortly afterwards, organised by local journo & drummer, Paul Byrne. This event ‘The Bastard Sons of Sun’ comprised 5 local musicians, and created quite a stir in the town. The musicians played, sang and fought their way through the night while the punters cheered and danced amongst the computer stations. The town buzzed for days and a venue was born!

The Hot Spot Music Club

The café venue initially offered a platform for emerging as well as established artists where there was none available - in addition to providing a much-needed community space. In 2014, the café evolved into The Hot Spot Music Club, finding a new and much improved home overlooking the sea at Greystones Marina. The club, featuring textured stone walls, soft furnishings and exposed beams is reminiscent of an old jazz club and offers a wide and varied entertainment schedule.

The Players

Specialising in those acts that are a little too big or a little too unique for your average pub rock gig we cross all musical divides and have regularly hosted the cream of Irish musical talent, with the likes of Hozier, Mick Flannery, Kila, Andy Irvine, Mary Coughlan, Steve Cooney, Iarla O’Lionard and Freddie White etc. We even kick-started our very own international artist, Hozier’s career when he played our regular sessions at the genesis of the music club’s journey as an internet café - in the village over a decade ago.
