Evenings & Weekends

Live Arts Entertainment – Full Bar & Barista Menu

The Hot Spot Music Club specialises in those acts that are a little too big or a little too unique  for your average pub rock gig! It has played host to many a special night, with the likes of Hozier, Scullion, Andy Irvine, Kila, Mary Coughlan, Freddie White and Tir na nOg sharing the stage with local luminaries such as HueGrass and The Universal Funk Orchestra. Hot Spot Music Club crosses all musical divides from gypsy swing to contemporary Spanish flamenco.

Both a weekend cafe –  you won’t want to miss our free Sunday afternoon jam sessions, where anything from tubas to ukeleles can help make your lazy day that little bit hazier – and a latenight venue, The Hot Spot Music Club has the look of a speakeasy and the feel of a naughty house session that’s getting just a little out of hand.

It’s also the perfect venue for your own private party or event, with full PA, DJ booth and dancefloor.

Email hotspotmusiclubg@gmail or phone 087 2917519 for further info, or go to our EVENTS where you’ll find out what’s coming up over the coming month. It’s the sort of venue that your couch will forgive you for cheating with.

PLEASE NOTE: This show has moved to the bigger stage at Mermaid Arts Centre, Bray.  Show starts at 8pm. Tickets 16e/18e   Book online - or phone box office 01 2724030

A music journey charting women’s role in the progression of the blues, features Flo Mc Sweeney, Clara Rose Monahan, Emma Nicolai & Jhil Quinn. This show premieres in the Mermaid Arts Centre in Bray on Sat July 16th.

It was Valentine’s day 1920 when Mamie Smith stepped up to the microphone in The Okeh Company in New York and shouted out “That Thing Called Love”, making the first recording of a black female vocalist! It led to a second recording which sold 75000 copies in its first month of release and although it wasn’t a classic blues recording it opened the door to a generation of “Classic Blues” vocalists.

Through that door came Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, Ida Cox, Alberta Hunter and many more transforming the blues from local folk music into the art form it is today. These blues women brought black culture into the American main stream. These women are the “Classic Women“ of the blues and have made a significant contribution to the development of jazz and blues in popular music. As the recording industry developed, male country blues singers were discovered, but it was the ladies who kick started it all!

In ‘Ladies in the Blues’ we pay tribute to these women, singing such songs as CC Ryder, St James Infirmary, Black Coffee Blues, I Put a Spell on You, Bring it on Home to Me, Ball and Chain, Piece of My Heart, Feelin' Good, Little Red Rooster, I'd Rather Go Blind, Ain't Nobody's Business and many more.

David Rooney with full band featuring songs from his debut album Bound Together plus a display of his artwork.
Support from  Mildred Fox and Christian Hind

In January 2016, David Rooney began recording his debut album ‘Bound Together’. With Declan O’Rourke as co-producer he put together some of the finest musicians in the country. These included jazz drummer Conor Guilfoyle and bassist Baz Rycraft who along with Jay Wilson on piano, create a broad soundscape for Rooney’s songs to inhabit. Add in the sweetness and spice of Palestinian vocalist Ruba Shamshoum and you have a genre defying collection of songs that draw from folk, jazz, and country, all played with more than a little soul. A Kilmacanogue resident, David will be having his Co. Wicklow launch of the album at the Hotspot on March 18th. with the full recording band.

David is better known as a visual artist. As a contributor to The Irish Times and Hotpress, his editorial illustration work has reflected the tumultuous changes in Irish society. Recent work has focused mainly on cultural projects including the BBC series ‘The Story of Ireland’, Titanic Experience Belfast and the Stonehenge Visitor Centre.

‘1916 - Portraits and Lives’, was published by the Royal Irish Academy. The 42 original portraits, were exhibited in Kilmainham Gaol for 2016 and will soon move to the Pearse Museum in Rathfarnham. Prints from the exhibition will be on display at the concert.

Ireland’s premier tribute to the Super group Fleetwood Mac, bring you on a magical musical journey from the Peter Green blues era to the multi-platinum selling Anglo/American band that still tour today.

Originally the “Best White Blues Band” to come out of the 60s, Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac had several memorable hits and influenced scores of others great bands that were to follow them, and/or cover their songs, such as Led Zeppelin and Santana.

When Peter Green left the band, Mick Fleetwood & John McVie kept the show on the road, being joined first by Christine Perfect (later McVie) and then Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. These three talented and prolific songwriters brought a distinctive style and unique fusion of rock, pop and country to the band. The turmoil of the bands private lives was played out in their music. Nicks & Buckingham soon gained iconic status in fronting the new line-up. Fleetwood Mac enjoyed a rebirth, producing many classic hits including the outstanding Rumours album. They went on to even greater worldwide success than the original line-up.

6 piece band, MACK FLEETWOOD deliver a spellbinding show. Their love of the material and musical prowess shines through in each song. They will bewitch you with authentic renditions all your favourite Fleetwood Mac hits
