Located above the beach house at Greystones harbour marina, the Hot Spot Music Club is a centre for live arts, music gigs & private gatherings.

Evenings & Weekends

Live Arts Entertainment – Full Bar & Barista Menu

The Hot Spot Music Club specialises in those acts that are a little too big or a little too unique  for your average pub rock gig! It has played host to many a special night, with the likes of Hozier, Scullion, Andy Irvine, Declan Sinnott, Kila, Mary Coughlan, Freddie White and Tir na nOg sharing the stage with local luminaries such as HueGrass and The Universal Funk Orchestra. Hot Spot Music Club crosses all musical divides from gypsy swing to contemporary Spanish flamenco.

Both a weekend cafe –  you won’t want to miss our free Sunday afternoon jam sessions, where anything from tubas to ukeleles can help make your lazy day that little bit hazier – and a latenight venue, The Hot Spot Music Club has the look of a speakeasy and the feel of a naughty house session that’s getting just a little out of hand.

It’s also the perfect venue for your own private party or event, with full PA, DJ booth and dancefloor.

Email hotspotmusiclubg@gmail or phone 087 2917519 for further info, or go to our EVENTS where you’ll find out what’s coming up over the coming month. It’s the sort of venue that your couch will forgive you for cheating with.

    Soul Agreed

Representing the legends of Northern Soul, Motown and some unsung heroes; they couldn’t agree on a name but they did on soul. A band was born and finally named by six devoted parents.

Fronted by the rich and rootsy vocals of Lou Max, with soulful sax from Tony Two Times, kickin’ keys from Major Pete-atonic and Twisted Thorn on funky guitar. Keeping it real and keeping the rhythm are Turnaround Tony (bass) and C. Fields (drums).

We hope you’re ‘Comin’ Down’! So ‘Reach Out’ of your ‘Rocking Chair’ and ‘Get Ready’ to twist those heels to Jackie Wilson’s squeals. Lend your lobes to the sounds of Sharon Jones. Don’t miss the ‘Long Train Runnin’ or you’ll have to walk ’25 Miles’ with ‘Nowhere to Run’. ‘Hold On’ to your wig and don’t miss the gig or you’ll be ‘Cussin’ & Cryin’ that you only ‘Heard it through the Grapevine’.

Chicago-born jazz/punk/barrelhouse musician Stephanie Nilles has been doin’ Kesey proud one bar at a time since 2008, hustling around the United States, Europe, and Canada (except from 2009-2010 for legal reasons), averaging 150 gigs a year, and captivating unsuspecting listeners with a voice that would make Jelly Roll Morton look orthodox and Ma Rainey look sober.

Stephanie has performed regularly on the east village anti-folk scene; sung with Bobby McFerrin in Carnegie Hall, directed the musical program of a Brooklyn burlesque series, covered Busta Rhymes’ “Break Ya Neck” in the skeletal remains of a bombed-out cathedral in Nuremberg, been invited to perform official showcases at SXSW and International Folk Alliance, and self-released 4 full-length albums

Dublin trad legends & Wicklow locals, Kila return to the Hot Spot on May 2oth. Check out this stunning review of their new album, Alive.

Recorded during Kila’s 2016 tour of venues and festivals throughout Ireland – specifically at the Civic Theatre, Tallaght and Vicar Street – this live outing showcases the eight-piece South Dublin collective at the height of their magnificent onstage powers. With crowd noise low in the mix, there’s little sense initially of it being an actual live recording. But the playing is, as always with Kila, energetic and inspired, while the band – still led by the O’Snodaigh brothers, Colm, Rossa and Ronan – retain their wonderful sense of musical adventure.

Pulsating and polyrhythmic, the opener ‘An Tiománaí’ – that’s ‘The Driver’ as Gaeilge – sets the scene for an incendiary ride through their two-decade long catalogue. Blending swampy guitar, a part spoken-word vocal, and an infectious traditional air, it captures all the elements which have made Kila such a unique live force.

An instrumental, ‘Skinheads’, starts out in a slow, mellow fashion, with some lovely ensemble playing, seamlessly weaving whistles, flute and guitar together, before igniting into in an almost Riverdance-style crescendo of fast rhythms and dense organic textures. Displaying influences ranging from Horslips and Moving Hearts to Jethro Tull, the epic seven-minute piece goes through several time signature changes, before building to a spectacular finale. This is great stuff.

Meanwhile a funky bassline and an urgent melody underscore the familiar ‘Electric Landlady’ – a popular single from around a decade or so ago that puns exquisitely on the Jimi Hendrix album title – while the harmonies on the largely a capella ‘Raise the Road’ are impressively precise.

Elsewhere, Middle Eastern and Afro textures are apparent on the atmospheric ‘Pota’, underlining Kila’s world music credentials, while other highlights include the haunting ballad ‘Babymouse’ and ‘Mutatu’, which showcases the wonderful uileann pipe playing of James Mahon. Long may they dance rings around us all...

Scottish keyboard player Donald McNeill accompanies alternative folk singer songwriter Martyn Travis - "Martyn Travis writes with the skill and subtlety of a great short story writer. The result is truth illuminated by a light only he can shine. His song ‘Father and a Son’, is devastatingly good.”  Buddy Mondlock, Nashville Singer/Songwriter

Mick Flannery realised a long time ago that - "at the end of the day and the heel of the hunt, you’re left with the songs. Everything else comes and goes – the shows and the tours and the applause and the acclaim which goes with them, the prattle and the palaver which accompany an album release. Everything else fades out of view. Everything else doesn’t matter in the long run.

But the songs remain. The songs you write on your own stick around. They’re going to be here for many years to come so they deserve to be treated with due care and utmost respect in the creation process."

Buddy Mondlock writes songs. He does it so well that some great songwriters have recorded his songs on their own albums. Guy Clark, Nanci Griffith, and Janis Ian, to name just a few. You might have heard his song “The Kid” (recorded by David Wilcox, Peter, Paul and Mary and Cry, Cry, Cry) and maybe even sung it yourself around a campfire. He draws you into his world - where a single snowflake follows the trajectory of a relationship, where you get you pocket picked by a Roman cat, where you might swim over the edge of the world if you're not careful and where dreams that donʼt come true still count.

Freddie White has long been synonymous with music of the highest quality. He has been part of the fabric of the live music scene in Ireland since the 1970’s. Whether interpreting songs by his favorite writers, such as Randy Newman, Tom Waits, John Hiatt and Guy Clark, or performing his own classy compositions, Freddie’s live performances are nothing short of legendary.

Celtic Soul are a 7-piece band band from Bangor delivering a very fine tribute to Van Morrison with excellent musicianship, authenticity and heart.

Receiving critical acclaim from devout Van fans wherever they perform, you’ll hear the big hits like Jackie Wilson Said, Days Like This, and of course Brown Eyed Girl. You’ll also hear Ballerina, Cyprus Avenue, and In the Garden among many others in a packed show.

Several live ‘unplugged’ performances on Gerry Kelly’s show on BBC Radio Ulster have boosted the band’s following. BBC’s Ralph McLean, a massive Van Morrison fan himself, describes Celtic Soul as ‘a great band’ and ‘a very fine tribute’. With more years than they care to remember playing in blues, folk, trad and jazz bands these musicians have the ingredients to combine and deliver Van’s music in an outstanding show.  Doors open 8pm. Show starts at 9pm sharp. Note: The first 20 tickets are €14!
