Fri29Sep2017Doors open 8pmTickets €8 - €10Virtuouso Blues Rocker, Mike Brookfield honed his craft while playing in a number of musical shows in London’s West End back in the 1990s. At the turn of the century he moved to Ireland and while acting as a Music Coordinator in RTE where he worked on shows and events such as The Café, the Meteor Music Awards, the Childline Concert and The Late Late Show, he performed with many well known international artists. Eventually he decided that he needed to make his own music and two years ago he released his debut album, Love Breaks the Fall, which attracted glowing reviews from the music press. Now Mike is ready to release his second album simply entitled “Brookfield”. This record is more than a sonic essay in the blues. It’s the raw - untreated, unregulated and unvarnished - sound of an artist at the peak of his powers.“Brookfield is a master of his craft, a guitarist of great skill and tone.”Blues In Britain Magazine
“Murderous blues rock thunderstorms…. the man simply does it all… awesome!”Blues News Magazine
"Mike Brookfield is a virtuoso blues rocker… What he can do with his Stratocaster, is bloody impressive.”Blues Matters Magazine

We Raise Bears bring their unique sound to The Hot Spot as part of an upcoming Irish Tour. We Raise Bears’ music has continued to gain critical attention, with BBC Radio recently attributed it with having "such a uniqueness in sound, a character, a confidence and an intelligence as well". Their now recognisably poignant and political lyricism has been described as “stunning” (Dublin Concerts).
In November 2016, the band released a well-received debut EP, which gained airplay across BBC radio, RTE radio 1, 2FM and TXFM, as well as on Irish and UK regional stations. We Raise Bears have performed at festivals that include Hard Working Class Heroes, Other Voices, Canalaphonic, Electric Picnic, Vantastival, Ones to Watch and regional arts festivals. They have delighted in headlining at venues around the country and also in sharing stages with acts like We Cut Corners, Cathy Davey and Conor O’Brien. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4a5b7AyBqCk

Acclaimed Irish duo of singer / actress Honor Heffernan and composer/ keyboard player Trevor Knight (Auto Da Fe), present their new Cabaret/Speakeasy-style show, “The Whistling Girl”. The original and unique music composed by Trevor transforms the poems of Dorothy Parker into songs, using her witty, droll and sometimes heart rending lyrics. With a lineup of highly renowned Irish musicians the atmosphere for a spellbinding evening of music with a theatrical element is brought to life. Garvan Gallagher bass, Tom Jamieson drums, Ed Deane electric guitar, Ciaran Wilde saxophones, Bill Blackmore / Ray Martin horns.
Each of the songs create individual tableaux or dream moments from Parker’s psyche, conjuring up images from her tempestuous life of outrageous celebrity, as founding member of the notorious Algonquin set in New York, and as civil rights activist in America and Spain during the Spanish Civil War.
Sometimes a role comes along that allows a performer to weave all the strands of their artistry into one darkly thrilling tapestry; Honor Heffernan has found such a role in The Whistling Girl; a daring production that uses music, song and elements of theatre to celebrate the life of the legendary wit and writer, Dorothy Parker. Fri27Oct2017Doors open 8pmTickets €16* - €18With each successive album, Luka Bloom digs deeper and gazes wider… he is on top form.– The Irish Times **** 2016 Review of 'Frugalisto'With a poet's heart and a rockster's soul, Luka Bloom is regarded as one of Ireland's most respected contemporary folk artists, having produced over 20 albums since the 1970s, Bloom continues to push the boundaries of what his music can do.
A master interpreter, Bloom has continued to balance original songs with reinventions of tunes by a diverse range of songwriters. Like many who write songs, Luka's orchestra of choice is the guitar. What makes his career a little different is his constant search for a new voice within the guitar. The guitar is the landscape on which the song is created, and he is forever probing that landscape for new inspiration. No effects, no gadgets. Time, effort and a whole lot of love bring forth new voicings within the instrument, and bit by bit, the songs come to life. And eventually they fly, bringing Luka with them to be heard in Byron Bay, San Francisco, Hamburg, or even Doolin. Almost 40 years since recording his first album, Luka Bloom comes to The Hot Spot Music Club with his latest album 'Frugalisto'.

Ireland’s premier tribute to the Super group Fleetwood Mac, bring you on a magical musical journey from the Peter Green blues era to the multi-platinum selling Anglo/American band that still tour today.
Originally the “Best White Blues Band” to come out of the 60s, Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac had several memorable hits and influenced scores of others great bands that were to follow them, and/or cover their songs, such as Led Zeppelin and Santana.
When Peter Green left the band, Mick Fleetwood & John McVie kept the show on the road, being joined first by Christine Perfect (later McVie) and then Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. These three talented and prolific songwriters brought a distinctive style and unique fusion of rock, pop and country to the band. The turmoil of the bands private lives was played out in their music. Nicks & Buckingham soon gained iconic status in fronting the new line-up. Fleetwood Mac enjoyed a rebirth, producing many classic hits including the outstanding Rumours album. They went on to even greater worldwide success than the original line-up.
6 piece band, MACK FLEETWOOD deliver a spellbinding show. Their love of the material and musical prowess shines through in each song. They will bewitch you with authentic renditions all your favourite Fleetwood Mac hits

The show performance is interspersed with short anecdotes about Jimi and stories of the songs, to cast the mind back to the time of his life.
The set-list is made up of 20 of the jimi's greatest and most recognizable classics: HEY JOE / CROSSTOWN TRAFFIC / ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER / FOXEY LADY / THE WIND CRIES MARY / PURPLE HAZE etc.
The Electric Experience is a painstakingly detailed project aimed at creating a live journey, woven through the sounds of Jimi Hendrix's compositions. For love of the thing itself.

John Blek is constantly proving himself to be a prolific writer of some of the most beautiful folk music being created today, both solo and with his band John Blek & the Rats. It is less than 12 months since the band released their last record and already John is ready to share his latest work “Cut the Light”.
The album was recorded in Bantry, West Cork, Ireland over a period of four days in early spring. A collection of eleven original contemporary folk songs carefully crafted and documented with the help of Davie Ryan (Drums), Brian Hassett (Bass Guitar) and Brian Casey (Producer). With a sound that harks back to that of Bert Jansch and Liege & Lief era Fairport Convention, “Cut the Light” is likely to become a favourite amongst both new listeners and existing fans.
“Cut the Light is an album I have wanted to record for quite a while. I pushed myself to become a better instrumentalist and songwriter on these songs and really focused on creating a collection of pieces that could live together on a cohesive album. It’s something I’m very proud of...…. “ John Blek
The album is being put out independently in Ireland on John Blek and the Rats own WARR label and through Tonetoaster Records in Germany.

A lot has been written and a lot has been said, whispered, recounted, alleged, supposed and presumed. It’s all quite forgotten now and the songs remain the same, they remain a testament to Mary Coughlan’s seemingly timeless and endless talent. Her smoky, bluesy, boozy drawl has always been a seduction, no matter what the subject. The vocal marrying of sardonic wit, visceral rage, orgiastic between the sheets passion, the tenderest of sorrowful regrets; this is Mary’s talent. Regardless of the elements she chooses to manipulate with flawless ease, Mary’s voice has always been an unforeseen, sudden seduction. This is why she is so loved. Throughout the over 25 years of her quite extraordinary recording career Mary has drawn heavily from her legendary heroes; Billie Holiday’s grievous, teary outpourings, the husky flirtations of Peggy Lee, Van Morrison’s soulful wails, the defiant chanteusery of Edith Piaf. All are present and correct in her delivery. Even so, Mary, with her naked honesty makes every song her own; they belong to her and nobody else. *First 25 tickets are €16
