Evenings & Weekends

Live Arts Entertainment – Full Bar & Barista Menu

The Hot Spot Music Club specialises in those acts that are a little too big or a little too unique  for your average pub rock gig! It has played host to many a special night, with the likes of Hozier, Scullion, Andy Irvine, Kila, Mary Coughlan, Freddie White and Tir na nOg sharing the stage with local luminaries such as HueGrass and The Universal Funk Orchestra. Hot Spot Music Club crosses all musical divides from gypsy swing to contemporary Spanish flamenco.

Both a weekend cafe –  you won’t want to miss our free Sunday afternoon jam sessions, where anything from tubas to ukeleles can help make your lazy day that little bit hazier – and a latenight venue, The Hot Spot Music Club has the look of a speakeasy and the feel of a naughty house session that’s getting just a little out of hand.

It’s also the perfect venue for your own private party or event, with full PA, DJ booth and dancefloor.

Email hotspotmusiclubg@gmail or phone 087 2917519 for further info, or go to our EVENTS where you’ll find out what’s coming up over the coming month. It’s the sort of venue that your couch will forgive you for cheating with.

Martin Simpson is listed in Gibson Guitars’ Top 30 Acoustic Guitarists of all time, and Acoustic Guitar readers voted him number 12 guitarist in the world in 2005. Universally acclaimed as one of the finest ever acoustic and slide guitar players, and a fine banjo-picker to boot, his solo shows bear witness to an artist at the very top of his game. Whether interpreting material from tradition or singing his own potent self-penned songs, Simpson is a remarkable storyteller: captivating and profoundly moving. His own songwriting produced the poignant ‘Never Any Good’, from Prodigal Son, 2007’s Folk Album of the Year.

Martin continues to collaborate with a dazzling array of people from across the musical spectrum: Jackson Browne, Martin Taylor, June Tabor, Richard Hawley, Bonnie Raitt, Danny Thompson, David Hidalgo, Danú, Richard Thompson and Dom Flemons are among the great musicians he has worked with.    *Note: The first 25 Tickets are €14.

NoCrows is an eclectic sextet featuring violinist Steve Wickham of Waterboy's fame, Anna Houston from Switzerland on cello and mandolin, Russian Violinist Oleg Ponomarev, Spanish guitarist Felip Carbonell, Ray Coen on fiddle & guitar and bassist Eddie Lee.  NoCrows repertoire is truly global as their music ranges from Portugal to Moldova, from Brittany to Russia, from Venezuela to Greece and beyond. The band borrows from the classical oeuvre as it does from jazz, trad, folk and world music as well as the band members own compositions. Mallorcan guitarist Felip Carbonell with his flamenco/manouche style guitar provides the engine for the band’s exciting and stylish music. The bands melodies arrive on the wings of the violin, mandolin and cello. Steve Wickham of ‘the Waterboys’ and Oleg Ponomarev are the violinists.  Tickets may purchased on this website, by phone 087 291 7519 or Pay on Door.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubaY5yblAqs&app=desktop

PLEASE NOTE: This show has moved to the bigger stage at Mermaid Arts Centre, Bray.  Show starts at 8pm. Tickets 16e/18e   Book online - www.mermaidartscentre.ie or phone box office 01 2724030

A music journey charting women’s role in the progression of the blues, features Flo Mc Sweeney, Clara Rose Monahan, Emma Nicolai & Jhil Quinn. This show premieres in the Mermaid Arts Centre in Bray on Sat July 16th.

It was Valentine’s day 1920 when Mamie Smith stepped up to the microphone in The Okeh Company in New York and shouted out “That Thing Called Love”, making the first recording of a black female vocalist! It led to a second recording which sold 75000 copies in its first month of release and although it wasn’t a classic blues recording it opened the door to a generation of “Classic Blues” vocalists.

Through that door came Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, Ida Cox, Alberta Hunter and many more transforming the blues from local folk music into the art form it is today. These blues women brought black culture into the American main stream. These women are the “Classic Women“ of the blues and have made a significant contribution to the development of jazz and blues in popular music. As the recording industry developed, male country blues singers were discovered, but it was the ladies who kick started it all!

In ‘Ladies in the Blues’ we pay tribute to these women, singing such songs as CC Ryder, St James Infirmary, Black Coffee Blues, I Put a Spell on You, Bring it on Home to Me, Ball and Chain, Piece of My Heart, Feelin' Good, Little Red Rooster, I'd Rather Go Blind, Ain't Nobody's Business and many more.

Join us for our New Orelans style Rhythm n' Blues, Rock n'Roll &  Social Dance Night. This fun-filled night is suitable for everyone and aims to provide an evening filled with great dance music from live band, Gavin Povey & the Oke She Moke She Pops! This will be a stompin’, jivin’, groovin’ evening! We’ll be rolling back the chairs and freeing up the dance floor so dust off your crepe soles and get on down and get rockin! (or just sit quietly and tap your feet!)

Van Morrison and Joe Cocker, Albert Lee and Grahame Parker, Meatloaf and Al Green all have one thing in common!  They have all shared the stage with Gavin Povey who is probably the best exponent of Rhythm & Blues, Boogie-Woogie, Swing, Stride, Funk and Rock & Roll to be seen in Ireland since the foundation of the state almost ninety nine years ago. Mixed in with this elixir are hints of Jazz, Country and Blues too. Expect classic songs from all eras of New Orleans style music as well as some of their own material.

50s/60s/70s Dress up is optional but more fun!!

Ireland’s premier tribute to the Super group Fleetwood Mac, bring you on a magical musical journey from the Peter Green blues era to the multi-platinum selling Anglo/American band that still tour today.

Originally the “Best White Blues Band” to come out of the 60s, Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac had several memorable hits and influenced scores of others great bands that were to follow them, and/or cover their songs, such as Led Zeppelin and Santana.

When Peter Green left the band, Mick Fleetwood & John McVie kept the show on the road, being joined first by Christine Perfect (later McVie) and then Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. These three talented and prolific songwriters brought a distinctive style and unique fusion of rock, pop and country to the band. The turmoil of the bands private lives was played out in their music. Nicks & Buckingham soon gained iconic status in fronting the new line-up. Fleetwood Mac enjoyed a rebirth, producing many classic hits including the outstanding Rumours album. They went on to even greater worldwide success than the original line-up.

6 piece band, MACK FLEETWOOD deliver a spellbinding show. Their love of the material and musical prowess shines through in each song. They will bewitch you with authentic renditions all your favourite Fleetwood Mac hits

Chicago-born jazz/punk/barrelhouse musician Stephanie Nilles has been doin’ Kesey proud one bar at a time since 2008, hustling around the United States, Europe, and Canada (except from 2009-2010 for legal reasons), averaging 150 gigs a year, and captivating unsuspecting listeners with a voice that would make Jelly Roll Morton look orthodox and Ma Rainey look sober.

Stephanie has performed regularly on the east village anti-folk scene; sung with Bobby McFerrin in Carnegie Hall, directed the musical program of a Brooklyn burlesque series, covered Busta Rhymes’ “Break Ya Neck” in the skeletal remains of a bombed-out cathedral in Nuremberg, been invited to perform official showcases at SXSW and International Folk Alliance, and self-released 4 full-length albums
