The Frantic Trio is an eclectic mix of Folk, Blues, Celtic Rock and Punk.
The band is comprised of three songwriters, performers, musicians, troubadours and dreamers and they are certainly no strangers to the music circuit both in Ireland and further afield. Between the trio, they bring a serious and mature musical history into the mix, crossing a musical divide and merging into something truly unique.
Dubbed by Jackie Hayden of Hotpress as similar in a musical vein to Nick Drake, Fran Greene is an adept and restrained self accompanist on guitar, crafting tickling jazz folk arpeggios with nifty guitar picking. His smooth strong smoky vocals leave luminaries of the musical world such as Lee Mavers from the La's in the shade. Fran has three solo albums on the go and has toured extensively.
Dave Hastie is a household name in Ireland from his time spent as front man with the five piece folk band ‘Jukebox Gypsy.’ Music brought him to Ireland from his native Newcastle Upon Tyne, and he has been likened to Joe Cocker and Graham Nash. His range is impressive as is his high energy performances. He has played the festival and folk circuit in Ireland and Europe for a number of years, his guitar skills would rival many of them, but his voice is the magic in the mix.
Colm Hassett’s name is one that is easily recognised from his years as the drummer with influential Irish band Whipping Boy (1989-2011). Colm has also studied Indian tabla and classical Indian percussion for nearly ten years. He has toured with Nick Cave, and recorded with a whole host of bands including God is an Astronaut, Stano, the Seagraves and Cold Comfort. Colm is the beautiful diamond in the background, and the heartbeat that elevates the music to a living, breathing maelstrom.
Lock up your daughters, throw these three together and it gets kinda frantic. The set consists of original material, with a light sprinkling of classic covers, taking you on a journey from melancholic to exhilarating: from a Murder at the Big-Top, to the haunting echoes of Simon and Garfunkle and finished with a nod to Claptonesque 8 bar blues.
A show not to be missed.
