    Remember Delia Murphy

    20:00Admission 7e

Remember Delia Murphy is a one-woman show performed by Delia's niece Carmen Cullen with musical accompaniment by guitarist Gerry Anderson. Carmen looks at Delia's unique contribution to Irish song and her special place in the history of Irish music. Some of Delia's well known songs include The Spinning Wheel and If I were a Blackbird. Carmen herself has a novel loosely based on her aunt called 'Two Sisters Singing' published by Liberties Press; a dramatised reading from it is incorporated into the performances. Delia Murphy came from Hollymount Co. Mayo. She was a pioneering folk singer in Ireland and abroad in the forties and fifties and established ballad singing as an acceptable song form. She was the first person to become a celebrity on this tradition.
